Join the ESA APEx presentations, demos, and discussions

We are excited to announce that APEx will be showcased at this year’s Living Planet Symposium (LPS25), taking place in Vienna, Austria, from 23–27 June 2025. As one of ESA’s flagship events for Earth observation, LPS25 brings together scientists, industry experts, policymakers, and innovators to explore how EO data can support a sustainable future. APEx will be present to share its contributions to this mission.

  • Presentation: Facilitating the Transition to Scalable, Cloud-Based EO Services with APEx

    D.04.02 — Thursday 26.06.2025 — 11:30 - 13:00 — Hall L3

Join us for a dedicated presentation on the core concepts of APEx, showcasing how it assists EO research projects in transforming their results—such as algorithms, workflows, or desktop tools—into scalable, cloud-based services that are FAIR-compliant and ready for reuse.

The session will emphasize how APEx supports this transition by providing tailored guidance, tools, and best practices. Each project's needs will be assessed to define a customized transformation pathway—from initial source code to fully operational cloud services. Services include code refactoring, packaging, onboarding into the APEx catalogue, cloud deployment, performance optimization, and long-term preservation, enabling projects to maximize the impact of their innovations.

  • Demo: Transforming EO Research into On-Demand Cloud Services with APEx Algorithm Services

    D.04.22 — Thursday 26.06.2025 — 12:45 - 13:05 — EO Arena

Discover how APEx assists EO R&D projects in converting their algorithms, workflows, and toolboxes into scalable, reusable, cloud-based services, ensuring they are FAIR and future-proof. This demo will guide you through the process of creating a cloud-based service, onboarding it onto a platform, and registering it in the APEx Algorithm Services Catalogue.

Whether you're aiming to scale your algorithm or enhance the availability and reuse of your results within the community, this demo provides a practical insight into how APEx prepares EO research outcomes for broader impact.

  • Demo: Empowering EO Projects with Cloud-Based Working Environments in APEx

    D.04.21 — Friday 27.06.2025 — 13:07 - 13:27 — EO Arena

This demo showcases how APEx facilitates EO projects in rapidly deploying cloud-native, collaborative working environments—without the burden of managing infrastructure.

Using a suite of pre-configured tools—including a project website, JupyterLab, a STAC catalogue, a geospatial viewer, user forums, and more—APEx enables projects to collaborate, visualize results, and engage stakeholders and their communities in one seamless setup.

Participants will learn about the flexible instantiation options available and discover how APEx environments can be tailored to specific project needs, accelerating scientific work and promoting the reuse of results across the EO community.

  • Meet the team: Open Science in the Making

    Foyer L2, Area 2

Open Science is made live, at LPS, at the “Open Science in the Making” booth! Each day features focused activities and live engagement opportunities. The APEx team will be available during dedicated slots ready to discuss your project needs, answer questions, and explore collaboration opportunities.

Meet the APEx team at ESA LPS25 in the Foyer L2 (Level 1) to explore how APEx can support your work or register for an APEx / OpenEO / STAC one-to-one session.
