Mission Statement
Streamlining EO innovation to operations and sustaining EO-enabled achievements
The ESA Application Propagation Environments (APEx) initiative is launched in April 2024 with the ambition to enhance Earth observation capabilities and support European Space Agency (ESA) projects. APEx will conclude its contract with full integration into the ESA Network of Resources, ensuring long-term accessibility and usability.
Transitioning innovation from Earth Observation (EO) Research & Development (R&D) activities to sustained and operational cloud-based services is a key challenge for many projects, companies and scientists. ESA’s Application Propagation Environments (APEx) initiative tackles this challenge:
- Streamlining and facilitating the transition of R&D algorithms and applications into FAIR (finable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) compliant and operational EO cloud-service implementations
- Optimising EO algorithm and services performance for ‘production-readiness’, simplifying algorithm upscaling and enabling cloudification of larger EO toolboxes
- Ensuring long-term access to EO project results (including value-added products, workflows/algorithms, documentation), allowing the larger EO community to adopt and build on top of previous achievements
- Providing tailored, configurable and integrated cloud-based collaboration environments that amplify your project’s productivity and showcasing of achieved insights
