A growing online catalogue of ready-to-use algorithm services
The APEx Algorithm Services Catalogue is a growing online catalogue designed to support researchers, developers, and platform providers working with Earth Observation (EO) algorithms. The catalogue provides access to ready-to-use cloud-based algorithm services that users can integrate into various workflows via interoperable standards such as openEO and OGC API Processes. This approach aims to enable development, limit redundant work, and encourage the use of standardized solutions within the EO community.
Access and integrate cloud-based algorithm services
The APEx Algorithm Services Catalogue provides EO services enriched with metadata, documentation, and direct links to execution environments. Users can run analyses via APEx tooling such as JupyterLab or VSCode IDEs, their own development environments, or directly in the Geospatial Explorer which will soon include the possibility to execute services through your web browser. Through its automated benchmarking and continuous testing, the catalogue will assign quality levels to its services, offering users an indicator of reliability and performance.

Onboarding your algorithm to support the EO community
Projects can publish their algorithms as openEO User Defined Processes through an openEO API backend or as OGC EO Application Packages via an OGC API Process, making them easily accessible to the wider community. The onboarding process supports automated testing and benchmarking to ensure service robustness beyond the project’s lifetime. Thanks to deep integration with APEx tooling, including execution through the Geospatial Explorer, providers can share their algorithms more effectively and gain greater visibility within the EO community.
A fully integrated environment to provide and use a wide variety of EO algorithms
APEx is constantly improving the Algorithm Services Catalogue to increase value for both users and service providers:
- Execution via APEx Geospatial Explorer
Upcoming integration will enable direct execution of catalogue services through a web interface with spatial and temporal parameter support. The Geospatial Explorer will combine discovery, execution, and monitoring capabilities for EO processes in one place. - Geographical Upscaling
The APEx Upscaling Service will allow users to apply algorithms across large areas by defining their areas of interest. This will support operational, cloud-based processing with job management and progress tracking, available through interfaces like the Geospatial Explorer and programmatic interfaces. - Benchmark Dashboards
New dashboards are in development to provide real-time insights into performance, stability, and cost. These will be available via a web interface, ensuring transparency and continuous improvement.
These updates will provide a fully integrated environment for discovering, executing, and scaling EO algorithms within the APEx ecosystem.
